At 12 years of age, I was struck and thrown 30 feet from my bicycle by a drunk driver. Members of my family say they will never forget the experience of waiting as I lay unconscious in a hospital emergency room. I will never forget the experience of waking up in a hospital bed and being told that I might be confined there for weeks, maybe months.
